Sustainable Streets: Heron Street 'Living Exhibition'

Updated: Sep 27, 2019

Landscape Architecture Students, the City of Manchester, and partners have joined forces to rethink and demonstrate design possibilities for a more sustainable Hulme.

Organised by MMU MLA2 Landscape Architecture Students, the 'Living Exhibition,' taking place on Saturday 28th of September, will demonstrate sustainable street measures. We invite you to come along to witness the live demonstrations and join us in entertainment, street food, street games, and much more!

One to Watch

Heron Street is one of the many streets in Hulme, Manchester, which is being featured as 'One to Watch', meaning it has great potential for revitalisation and change- with the right recipe. Rain gardens, street calming measures, sustainable planting, recycling, play, and community spaces have been put forward as potential regeneration initiatives. A bold redesign can help support a broader cultural shift from "cars vs people" thinking to a new vision of the streets as shared spaces for...

  • water-saving and harvesting features;

  • sustainable urban drainage;

  • planting superstar native trees and pollinator plants; and

  • above all, people.

Come along to see these exciting proposals on display, along with a variety of local exhibitors:
