Periphery panopticon



As part of their Atelier work, MLA1 students were introduced to two different landscapes, which typically characterise the periphery of the GMCA. The brief involved an exploration of the landscape through walking and experimentation with a range of techniques to communicate a personal sense of the peripheral landscape via a cognitive map.


In the second part of the brief, students were presented with an example of a panopticon and were tasked with its placement to reconfigure the experience of the landscape through capturing, isolating and contextualising views and revealing and intensifying the peripheral landscape.
