National Tree Week: Larix decidua

Updated: Nov 26, 2018

As part of National Tree Week 2018, students and staff at Manchester Metropolitan University's Landscape Architecture department are once again throwing light on the trees that they believe deserve recognition.

Today it is associate lecturer Jo Phillips' turn to share.

I like it for the autumn colour, the soft green spring growth, the crazy pink young female cones, the graceful swoop of the lower branches on a mature specimen, and for the carpet of yellow needles on the ground at the moment. It is also a really easy tree for students to identify because of the knobbly 'pegs' along the twigs.
Its very showy in its own way - my top conifer for sure.
