MLA2 students explored the atelier project location last week between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Our base was the Merz Barn at Elterwater, final work of the hugely influential German emigre artist, Kurt Schwitters, who died while working on his final Merzbau here.

The photographs show Ian Hunter introducing students to the site and its history; presentations of student installations around the woods of the Cylinders Estate; students building a bamboo geodesic dome to shelter our barbecue from the rain; students preparing a cognitive map of their journey; the barbecue in action; and post-barbecue entertainment from Steve, a local Cumbrian musician.
